Are You a Servant in God’s Kingdom?

Ryan Olson

Tonight I want to talk about, being a servant. We see in the Bible of servanthood,

like the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37, but the one that we really think of the

most in Jesus Christ. Now Jesus Christ came from that most holy position to the

most lowly position to become a servant. Jesus says in Mark 10:45: "For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."

A good passage to go to of Jesus serving is, John 13:1-17. Jesus took a position

to come and wash dirty feet to come be a servant. Another thing if we are going

to be like Jesus is we need to be a servant because Paul says in, 1 Corinthians "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ." The bible also says to be like Jesus in, 1 John 2:6 "He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he

walked." I'm not saying you have to wash dirty feet, I'm saying we need to serve like Jesus

did. The Bible says as we already read in 1 Corinthians 11:1, “Be ye

followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” If we are going to be like Jesus we need

to teach like Jesus did. Obviously we can’t do miracles, but we can teach like Jesus

did. He went everywhere to preach the Gospel to everyone who needed the

Gospel. Jesus says, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). There is a quote that says, "Go ye means Go Me.” We need to go and preach the

Gospel to everyone. Our third idea: if we are going to be a servant we have to

love, and if we are going to be like Jesus we need to love like Jesus loved. "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved

you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life

for his friends" (John 15:12-13). Jesus said to love one another as I have also loved you.

Being a servant in God’s Kingdom requires us to do the things Jesus says to do. It’s going get hard sometimes, but we just have to keep on keeping on.
