What you think about the Word of God, the Holy Bible, is vital in your walk in Christ. If
you doubt the accuracy, or the infallibility of the Bible, then that will affect how you expose the
truth of the Bible. Our world finds ways to try and attack the genuineness of the Bible. Our world denies that it is the completed Word of God. Are we to agree with them or are we to stand for the truth in spite of the world? Let us discuss more.
The expositor MUST uphold the Word of God as God-Breathed and NEVER cast
doubt of its’ genuineness. I recently saw a post on X (formerly Twitter) that was in response to
a truthful post about the Bible. Kevin M. Young wrote on X that, “Jesus is the accurate and
authoritative Word of God. Jesus left the Holy Spirit in his place, not a book." I would
have no issue with Mr. Young’s statement about Jesus being the accurate and authoritative Word nor would I have an issue with the statement that Jesus left the Holy Spirit. Those points are true. However, what makes the issue is the addition of “not a book." Mr. Young implies that the Bible is not from God. He has made several follow ups on his X page that further shows his denial of the genuine Word of God. What makes this so upsetting is that Mr. Young claims to be a preacher and spokesman for God. Any so called spokesman of God who denies the genuineness of the Holy Scriptures has no business being a spokesman of God! Preacher, never cast doubt on the Bible and make sure that you teach on this subject.
The expositor MUST look to the Holy Bible as his source of authority. We must not
allow our own opinions to override the authority of the Scriptures. Paul wrote, “All Scripture is
inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in
righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work” (2
Timothy 3:16-17 NASB95). He also charged Timothy to “preach the word; be ready in season
and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction” (2 Timothy 4:2
NASB95). Our listeners must know that we look to Scripture and to it alone as our source. It is
fine to use comments and things from others, but we must never give the impression that we
value the words of men more than the Scriptures! I like the phrase coined by the reformation
preachers of old, Sola Scriptura which means “Scripture Alone." Scripture alone reveals the God of Heaven and how man may be saved from sin!
The expositor MUST live out the Word himself. Paul wrote, “but I discipline my body
and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified”
(1 Corinthians 9:27 NASB95). It will do us no good if we fail to practice what we have
proclaimed to others. Sometimes, the only Bible people will read is us. If we do not live out the
message, then we will have no chance at helping them see Jesus. It is paramount that we “Be
diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed,
accurately handling the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15 NASB95) so that we may “…ensure
salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you” (1 Timothy 4:16 NASB).
