What the church of Christ Can Do For You

The church of Christ is not a denomination[1]—it was built by an organized God (Matthew 16:18; 1 Corinthians 14:33). The name “church of Christ” is not a title—it is a mere designation for God’s holy people (Romans 16:16). The church of Christ is not seclusive—anyone can be apart of this wonderful institution (Ephesians 2:14-17).

The church of Christ is God’s gift to mankind. Like an architect, God thought about it (Ephesians 3:11), like a business man, Jesus bought it (Acts 20:28), and like an organizer, the Holy Spirit brought it (Acts 2:17-18).[2] The church of Christ is not for God—He doesn’t need it. The church of Christ is not for babies—they are safe. The church of Christ is for you dear sinner. Here are some things the church of Christ can do for you:

Like a Hospital, it is a Place You Can Be Healed. Humans need cleansing, their sins are like crimson stains (Isaiah 1:18). In fact, all humans have stains on them (Romans 3:23). Sinners have many cuts and bruises because of the choices they made in the past (Ephesians 2:1-3; 5:3-5; 1 Peter 4:3) and the church is the place where you can be healed. This hospital, like many others, welcomes all patients: those needing life support, the inflicted needing surgical repairs, and even those with minor wounds. It does not turn patients away and can heal even the near-death harms (1 Timothy 1:12-15). No patient is too far gone for the Doctor to heal. Jesus is giving out blood transfusions for all sinners—why not come get one today? Here’s the prescription:

  • Hear the Gospel message (Romans 10:17; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4).

  • Believe the Gospel message with all your heart (John 8:24; Acts 8:37).

  • Repent of your sinful ways (Luke 13:3, 5; Acts 17:30).

  • Confess your faith verbally (Acts 8:37).

  • Be immersed in water (Acts 22:16; Revelation 1:5).

Jesus adds all those who have obeyed His orders to His church (Acts 2:47) and you will find yourself forgiven of all sin (Ephesians 1:7), cleansed of a pricked conscience (Hebrews 9:14), and joyful with a pure heart (Acts 8:39). You cannot have the blood unless you go to the hospital. Why not come visit Doctor today—He’s taking patients right now![3]

Like a Family, it is a Place You Can Feel Welcomed. Do you love to feel loved? Family, friends, spouses, children, all want to feel embraced and accepted. Why not come be a part of God’s family—no one loves you more than God! His family includes fathers, mothers, sisters, and brothers (Mark 10:30; 1 Timothy 5:1). These are not titles but relationships. You will find elderly members who want to help you on your way to Heaven (Titus 2:1-7), sisters who want to cry with you in your pain (Romans 12:15), and brothers who want to walk with you to Heaven (Philippians 2:25; 4:3). As you step into the doors of this spiritual house, you will find love, joy, and comfort. Why not come join the family of God today—there is an open pew waiting for you!

Like an Insurance Plan, it is a Place You Can Feel Covered. We all want to feel covered. This is why we buy car, house, or life insurance. But have you thought about soul insurance? There are many plans out there that say they can cover your soul, but they are false advertising. The only plan that can cover your soul is found in Jesus’ church (John 14:6; Acts 4:12). If we simply obey the laws of the contract, we will be covered when we present ourselves to Him at the last day. In fact, is a joyous thing to be covered: “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered” (Psalm 32:1). Why not come see the Agent today and get a quote—He’s got a plan just for you (Mark 16:16).

Sports teams can mold us, schools can teach us, families can shape us, but only Jesus can save us.[4] He established His one church to help you dear one. Won’t you take Him up on His offer today—the church of Christ is just around the corner!
