Ponder the Path

Writer: Rachel OlsonRachel Olson

Guarding our walk, we walk in action(purpose). We want to walk prayerfully and with intention. We walk with directed paths. “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15-16). We want our goings to be established. Psalm 119:59: “I thought on my ways, And turned my feet unto thy testimonies.” Speaks of thinking about your walk and making the necessary changes for that. Our purpose as we grow and do service to God is to make the required lifestyle changes needed to align with His word. If we purpose in our heart to begin with that we are going to walk godly. In the story of Joseph, we find that he had asked himself when presented with temptation, “how can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9) using his eyes on a distant target of God, he was able to walk straight towards righteousness and flee from sexual temptation. He refused to turn to the right or left. Being on guard to the enemies tactics, we can closely be aware and avoid putting ourselves in harms way. The enemy doesn’t have to kill us to harm us. In Judges 1:6 “But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.” We see that the tactic wasn’t necessarily to kill then, it was to make them ineffective and get them to stop walking. That’s the devils way to distract and discourage Gods people.

To help better guard our walk, we need to gain wisdom to sustain and protect against that kind of tactic. As we look in the Bible of many examples for godly wisdom, one comes to mind and it’s Moses. In Hebrews 11:24-28 “By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.” This talks of how Moses refused to be referred with the Egyptian people and wanted to suffer affliction with Gods people. To give up the pleasures he had living the palace life, sensual pleasures, social pleasures and riches. Moses chose to live among the enslaved, persecuted and keep company with the despised. The principle which moved Moses was faith. Faith told Moses that worldly pleasures are pleasures for a season. Sowing to flesh receives corruption. With every stone we throw produces ripple effects and we want those ripple effects to be fruitful. Using the wisdom in Gods word is Gods treasure for us. Seek it with all your heart and it will give you understanding. You will find be rewarded for your righteousness.
